The Outlast temperature-regulating mechanism stores and releases your body heat. When you move more or the outside temperature rises, the phase-change paraffin thermo-beads in the Outlast material begin to change from solid to liquid, storing heat in the process. This change leaves your thermal balance feeling stable. The energy needed to activate this process comes from your own body heat or from the rise in outside temperature. As you begin to cool down, the Outlast thermo-beads start to change back from liquid to solid. During this transformation, the heat the thermo-beads stored while you were active is released back to you.
